Huddersfield took no time in defrosting after the recent cold snap with a hammering of Leeds Carnegie at the Adel Memorial ground. Seven games now unbeaten keeps Huddersfield top of the table and still with games in hand.

Leeds enjoyed good possession in the first five minutes of the game but that was about it for the first half as Huddersfield smashed in five goals. Peachey finished coolly at the far post, Hirst picked out Swinden at the top of the D for his first and then his second was a superb solo run ending with a deft chip over the keeper. Clem Gregory smashed one home from a short corner and Courtney made it five. They could have had more but the Leeds keeper made some good saves.

Huddersfield still had time to see first Peachey go to the sin bin and then concede a goal after an error from Mark Swinden who then followed Peachey for a spell off the pitch. Leeds also lost a player in a tetchy end to the half.

This seemed to unsettle Huddersfield who switched off for the first part of the second half and gave Leeds their best spell of the game. Beatson left the pitch with a knee injury but Leeds could not break down the Huddersfield defence. As they pushed further forward this left gaps for a succession of pacy counter attacks from Huddersfield and they looked they would score a hatful. Durrans got on the score sheet twice once from close range and once from the edge of the D, both after surging runs from man of the match Courtney. Huddersfield should have had more but the scoring was competed by Swinden who grabbed his third form a short corner to finish the game 8-1

Huddersfield look ahead now to next weekend with two matches both away from home. Two victories would go a long way pushing on to the league title.
